Buh-bye Maggs, Jose, Sandy and Robbie

Hi there. Back from the dead, after a much needed break from talking about my underachieving hometown boys.

So, yeah, no expectations for 2005 based on what this team did in 2004 and the apparent lack of big offseason moves since our owner is too cheap to spring for some much needed top shelf FAs. And today the White Sox declined to offer arbitration to Magglio, Jose and the Alomar brothers, so it's a bit of an end of an era for me, as Magglio and the Valenstache definitely carved out a special place in my heart with their play over the last several years. However, I can't argue with saying goodbye to any of these guys. Magglio's health is too much of a question mark to take a blind gamble on (thanks, Borass), and he's just a bit shy of a real game-maker -- consistent .300/30/100 guy and all, but not worth the 8-digit salary he's seeking. As for Jose, the Sox can ill afford another year with a SS whose average continually hovers around .200 with way too many Ks, and who still makes boneheaded errors on easy plays (the hard plays, he makes; WTF?).

The holes the 2005 White Sox have are many and deep -- RF, DH, 2B, SS, 3B, fifth starter, even C and possibly CF assuming Aaron Rowand reverts to the mean, which is a definite possibility. I'll reserve judgment until pitchers and catchers report, but I have an awful hunch the Sox's moves will be minimal and frugal.

I sort of disagree a bit, Tim. This might be the last straw for me, my friend. I dunno. Maybe it's just the sentimentality, but I've loved Mags ever since the first time I saw him in person, making one of his patented seat-of-ass spectacular catches in right, as a late-season call-up back in 1997 (heck, I might have even been with you at that game; I can't remember at this point.) I mean, we all knew Mags was as good as gone, but ... the way it has all actually come down ... the slap in the face of giving us Jermaine Dye (solid player but no Mags and JUST as much of an injury nightmare; over/under on games played is about 100, I reckon) .. the fact that nobody wants to play here. Man, it's depressing. I'm sure I'll be back for more punishment come April, but I doubt I'll attend all that many games. I really hope Mags goes to the Cubs and they jettison Shammy. I really do. And that Mags goes on to put up MVP numbers. Teach that POS Reinsdorf a lesson.

From the future. . .a message of hope. Those players mean nothing. We will totally retool over the off season. Dye will do just fine. And the four horsemen that Willams ends up with starting will amaze you all. Suprises at catcher and left. . . Lee will be traded and we will get the better of the deal. Willams will be hailed as a genius, my friend.
